GIVING UP

A generation ago America was involved in a terrible foreign war. The fighting on the battlefield was intense and violent. Sometimes American soldiers found themselves completely surrounded and had to lay down their weapons and surrender. One such soldier was Bob Heinrich. He and many others found themselves in a prisoner-of-war camp. Bob felt humiliated, help-less, homesick, and terribly lonely. So, one day he sat down facing the wall in one corner of his cell, wrapped a blanket about him, and stayed there unmoving until he finally dropped over . . . dead. Four out of every ten American prisoners did exactly the same thing during this conflict.

Many others cooperated with the enemy to save their skin! Why? Because, this particular war didn’t have any goals or objectives. The men had no idea why they were fighting. They were just told to shoot their guns and fire their cannons and the next day do it some more. The enemy didn’t have to guard their prisoner-of-war camps very much. Few tried to escape. Others took Bob’s way out of the war. On the other hand, Americans had a tough time keeping their prisoners in check. They tried to escape every chance they got. They had to have many more guards. You see, enemy prisoners knew what they were fighting for and wanted to get back to protecting their home land. You’re a soldier in a war—a war between Christ and Satan.

Take time to discover why your life is important to God and what He wants you to do while you’re here on earth. Then if Satan takes you prisoner, you won’t give up. You’ll escape—now.
