IMPERFECT REFLECTIONS

«Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity» (l Corinthians 13:12).

One day, my cell phone accidently fell on the floor and, for the first time after having fallen so many times, it broke.  Seeing its cracked screen while it still worked resiliently made me think I remembered all the cell phones I had seen, with much more fragile screens than mine, having been ruined because of an accidental fall as well. And they still worked. How easily we get used to seeing them that way: cracked! We grow accustomed to seeing the distorted images they project. We adapt our eyes to the lines that make it difficult to use them and see well. Perhaps something that cost so much effort is left with indelible marks in a matter of seconds. Perhaps a little glass splinter still pokes your fingers and makes you bleed. And we accept that reality and go on with it.

I don’t know if your cell phone cost a hundred or a thousand dollars, but they can all break… we can all break Others may have hurt us or we might have also hurt ourselves.

It’s important to remember there is a solution. Let’s not get used to seeing everything through lines that remind us of the falls. Let’s not adapt our vision or see life only through the perspective of something that’s broken or distorted.

Just as when we enter a hall of mirrors, where our image is totally distorted, and we realize what’s in front of us is not always a reflection or reality and that our mind is being fooled, let’s realize that in this world we’ll only see imperfect reflections.

But those aren’t discouraging news, because there’s a promise full of hope hiding within them.

Help is available, at least, and foremost, from God. It’s free, even though it cost Him everything. It’s merciful, patient and full of perfect love.

He’s an expert at fixing us, but more than that: today He wants to transform us and prepare us for when we will see everything with perfect clarity. He can be like that clean cloth that wipes away imperfections and dirt from the lens through which we see everything.

Through His clean viewpoint, He can show us what His plan is.
