Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!» (Luke 24:5, 6).
Not long ago I stood at the graveside of someone I loved very -my mother. Cancer had claimed her life, and now I faced a future without her. Sure, I was sad. My heart was breaking. But I couldn’t help remembering another group of people who hurried to a grave to pay their last respects to someone they loved—Jesus Christ. What they found shocked them from the tops of their heads to the soles of their feet. Jesus was gone! The tomb was empty. Suddenly two men appeared wearing gleaming clothes. «He’s not here,» they confirmed. «He’s risen.» My mother’s tomb isn’t empty. No angel has come to awaken her—yet. But someday it will happen. I know this because of the empty tomb that Christ’s followers found on that mysterious Sunday morning 2,000 years ago. Jesus proved that God’s power Is stronger than death and that Satan can’t hold people in their graves forever.
When I was a child my mother would wake me from my naps with n soft «Charlie Boy. Wake up, Charlie Boy.» If I must sleep the long sleep of death, I know that God won’t bother blowing a trumpet to wake me up. No sir. He’s going to lift my mother from her resting place in Collegedale, Tennessee, and tell her, «tin wake up your son,» Then I’ll hear those loving words again mid see by mother’s face hovering over me. «Wake up, Charlie Boy,» she’ll say.
Yup. There’s going to be a lot of empty tombs someday!
