«A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness» (Proverbs 12:23).
WISDOM
In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon highlights one of the great features of human beings: absurdity. That’s right, human behavior is completely irrational, absurd, illogical and impossible to explain (Ecclesiastes 1:14-15). Therefore, this world is not in the hands of the most capable, but rather in the hands of fools (10:6). That has nothing to do with a certain time in history in particular, instead, it’s part of human nature. Absurdity in leadership is a reflection of the influence of sin in men’s hearts. Whereas good leaders portray God’s power, foolish ones reveal Satan’s features: arrogance, whims, abuse of power, a spirit of vengeance, intemperance, and incompetence, among other things. That’s why the wise have to learn to be especially careful so as not to be destroyed by some untimely decision made by those in power. In Ecclesiastes chapter 10, the great Solomon gives some advice about it:
- A little folly affects the wise man’s standing and makes him vulnerable. Instead, a foolish men’s follies aren’t as noticeable because little is expected of them (verse 1).
- Accept the fact that, while we’re in this world, things won’t change much (verse 2).
- Don’t show your anger in front of them (verse 4).
- Don’t harbor false hope that some day a «leader» will rise to power and things will be better (verses 5—7).
- Don’t attack them openly because that way you lower yourself to their level and they’ll crush you (verses 8, 9).
- les better to depend on personal ability than on being friends with a person who holds power (verses 10, 11).
- Powerful people say lots of nonsense. Don’t pay attention to everything that comes out of their mouth. And don’t rush into making drastic decisions after hearing foolishness either. It’s better to take your time (verses 12-14).
- It would be nice if people who make important decisions had healthy habits to have mental clarity, but that’s not always so. Don’t forget that (verses 16-19).
- Don’t talk badly about them because they’ll find out (verse 20).
That’s our world. So we have to learn to be careful. When Jesus comes, He will establish new leadership guidelines. That’s why you should be cautious, so you won’t suffer unnecessarily.
Ask the Lord today to help you be prudent and wise in the way you organize your life.
