“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become
Children of God, to those who believe in His name”
(John 1:12).
The Creator was infinitely generous with His children: He granted us part of His nature when creating us in His image and likeness.
This means you have rights and responsibilities toward Him, yourself and others.
- You have the right to make decisions according to the criteria God shows you, and you have the duty to accept other people’s decisions as long as they don’t affect your relationship with yourself and God. Just as you are free, other people are also free.
- You have the right to make mistakes without feeling embarrassed: God is ready to hear your confession and grant you forgiveness if you ask Him. And you have the duty not to judge others when they make mistakes, because this same God is ready to forgive your neighbor just as He forgives you.
- You have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, and you have the duty to treat those who encounter you the same way.
- You have the right to live without abuse, and you have the duty not to abuse your neighbor.
- You have the right to intimacy and personal space, and you have the duty to respect other people’s intimacy and personal space.
- You have the right to express what you feel, and you have the duty to accept other people’s feelings even if they are the opposite of what you feel.
- You have the right to happiness, and God wants you to experience it. And you have the duty to promote happiness in others.
- You have the right to be considered a daughter of God, and you have the duty to view each person as someone who has been created in God’s image, and to treat them as such.
