DO YOU RECOGNIZE HIS VOICE?

MY NEIGHBORS have three dogs: Lola, a beige Labrador with bright black eyes; Caramelo, a while hunting dog with yellow spots; and Pequeno, who is just like his mother Caramelo. Why do I tell you this? Because I learned a great lesson from these dogs that help me to live in these end times.

You see, one day, I left my house early in the morning to pick up some boxes I had left in my neighbors’ yard. Normally, when it is daytime, the three dogs recognize me, so they are delighted when they see me coming. However, that was the first time I was approaching them in the dark of night. Their instinct likely told them that I was an intruder who was putting their territory in danger, so they lunged toward me with loud barking to chase me away. It seemed to me that they were ready to attack, so I decided to speak to them. When I spoke, two of them calmed down immediately; it was obvious they have recognize my voice. Without further ado, they went back to their they place, relaxed.

However, Caramelo continued barking loudly, perhaps because she had not heard me. It was not until I took the time to touch her long ears that she finally calmed down and all her fury ended in nothing. She, also, went back to lie down and continue her night’s sleep.

What stood out for me in that situation was the importance of recognizing the voice of the one talking to us. Taken to the spiritual sphere, there can be people who pass themselves off as false christs, or there could be non-biblical ideas we feel tempted to accept, which is why the solidity of our criteria and decisions should lie in the fact that we know the Master and identify His voice, and therefore, know what things do not come from Him.

Just as it happened to little Samuel, who did not recognize the voice of God until he was instructed by Eli, we will not learn to distinguish the voice of God if we are not instructed by His Word, by all the messages He has left us through His prophets. It is there so that no one may deceive you, so that you are not afraid, so that you may prepare for the great day. It is there to teach you to recognize the voice of God above all the other noises of the world.
