Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. HEBREWS 2:18 NIV
I hadn’t been to Key West, Florida since I was a kid, so I was excited to return. One of the neat things I experienced while I was there was a trip out into the open sea on a large catamaran. We got our tickets and boarded the catamaran that took us many miles out. First, we went to one of the nicest reefs in the Keys. The tour operator provided us with masks, snorkels, and fins so that we could explore the reef, but his particular time was a little different. As the boat traveled out into the open sea, the tour operator informed us that the place we would be snorkeling was great but potentially dangerous.
As we arrived at the spot, they proceeded to point out an area in the distance where the color of the water was noticeably darker. The guide explained to us that the darker water was the edge of a deep ocean trench. He told us that we could swim out to explore but to not snorkel close to the area where the trench was. An Ocean trench is a spot where the ocean floor suddenly drops hundred or even thousands of feet into a deep trench. He warned us not to fall into the temptation of getting to close.
Sometimes we see something that we know is bad for us, and instead of running in the opposite direction we find ourselves trying to see how close we can get. One of Satan’s tactics is to tempt us with things that look good but are ruthlessly destructive. Don’t give in to temptation, because nothing good will come of it if you do. Stay as far away from temptation as possible and call on Jesus for help.
Our BIBLE verse today reminds us that Jesus was also tempted, so He knows how hard it is, and He has promised to help us if we trust Him.
