He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been to you, but not to them.” MATTHEW 13:11, NIV
Driving through the southwestern part of the United States provides something new at practically every turn. A few years ago when I was driving across the southern part of Colorado, I stopped by one of the more unique national parks in the United States-Mesa Verde. The park sits up on a mesa, a big flat area on the top of the mountain. Amongst the flat areas at the top there were rolling hills and canyons that had eroded away. The reason this place became a national park is that in the late 1800s some explorers discovered the remains of an ancient Puebloan civilization that lived high up on these mesas, many hundreds of years ago. There were no nice roads back then, so how and why they chose that location is a bit of a mystery. Although the Puebloans lived on the flat surface areas of the mesa, this civilization has become a famous tourist destination because they also built cities into the side of the canyon cliff walls. Several tours were available allowing us to climb down ladders and narrow stairs to reach these unusual cities.
Historians estimate that the largest of these cliff cities once housed around on hundred people. Apparently these people really wanted to “get away.” They were up on a high mesa that was hard to get to, and they build their cities on even harder-to-reach cliff walls. Many people have tried to figure out why, but the interesting behind. Even more mysterious was why these cities were eventually abandoned.
There are many mysteries in the world, and it’s exciting to try to solve them.
God provides answers to some of life’s mysteries. When we get to heaven, all of our questions will be answered. We will understand then, and we will not wish to change one thing that God has done in our lives.
