«Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches» (Proverbs 24:3, 4).
A FABLE TELLS that a cicada observed an ant coming and going, carrying objects in preparation for the winter. One day, the cicada said to the ant: «Friend, don’t you get tired of working so much? Why don’t you rest here for a while with me, while I sing you something sweet?’
«Thank you, but I cannot,» said the ant, and continued with its dedicated work.
And so the summer and autumn passed until one day, as it woke up, the cicada felt the intense cold of winter. trees had been left without leaves, so it had nowhere to go; it wandered from one place to another, cold and hungry. Meanwhile, the ant had provisions and enjoyed the result of its work. Tie ant harvested the fruits of having known to build its home wisely, while the cicada suffered the consequences of not having been intelligent and anticipating that the cruel winter would soon arrive.
Dear friend, the cold winter can make an appearance at any time, so build your house wisely and set its foundations intelligently. And I am not referring to physical pillars and bricks- I am not inviting you to the material construct tion of a real house (though of course, there is nothing wrong with that). I am talking about the moral and spiritual values that you will place as the foundation for your family; I am talking about the knowledge you need to provide to the people who make up your home, because you have to know how to build the wisdom that really counts in life, the one that begins with the fear of God.
Just as we adorn our physical house so that it is nice and cozy and speaks of our good taste, so we must work on our personality so it may be balanced, generate confidence in people, and speak of our good moral and spiritual criteria and of our faith in God.Just as Paul advised Timothy, so I advise you (and me) this morning:» Do your best to present yourself to God as an approved worker who has nothing to be ashamed of, handling the word of truth with precision» (2 Timothy 2:15, ISV). This is how we must build, here and now, for the eternity that awaits us.
