Lawrence Maxwell, former editor of Guide magazine, wrote a beautiful illustration highlighting our life with Jesus in the February 14, 1962, issue. Here’s what he said: «One day I toured a battleship with my dad and twin brother. What an exciting trip! We saw gun turrets and mighty guns, torpedo tubes and engine rooms. Then we stood in line to look into the ship’s searchlight. The sailors gave us heavily tinted glass protect our eyes, but what a tremendous light that was!
«From then on, when I used a flashlight, no matter how bright that flashlight may have been, it seemed dim and dull in comparison. The experience reminded me of the beautiful song by Helen H. Lemmel that juniors like to sing. ‘Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face; and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.
«At one time I was an organ student and thought I was doing just fine. Then a famous organist visited our college and played on the auditorium organ. His fingers tripped effortlessly up and down the keys as his feet danced over the pedals with unfailing grace and accuracy. Suddenly my own playing seemed dreadfully poor.
“Now I know what it means when the Bible says our goodness is as filthy rags compared to the purity and goodness of Jesus.
«Once we catch a glimpse of Christ and hear the love played in our hearts, nothing can compare. Nothing.
