BLUE BLOOD

«And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission» (Hebrews 9:22).

WHEN THE LORD made a promise to Abraham, covenants were signed with the blood of a sacrifice and it implied the death of those who did not fulfill the pact. Christ did not shed His blood as the non-compliant party but instead as the sacrifice that ratified it. Our life is transient, but the new life God offers is enduring. Christ’s death was necessary for the terms of the new covenant to come into effect. «This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you,» Jesus said in Luke 22:20.

In 1994, Robert Rod at researched the story of the eight Niland brothers. They all died in the American Civil War. From his research work came the idea for the script of the fiction film Saving Private Ryan (1998). During the invasion of Normandy, at the height of World War Il, Captain John Miller was chosen to lead a team tasked with a dangerous mission: to find this soldier James Ryan, whose three brothers had already died in the war, in order to bring him to safety. The reason? Not all children in a family were allowed to be Idled in combat.

The battle for the rescue was intense and Captain Miller was at the point of death. He said to Ryan, «We have made a great sacrifice for you. Live a dignified life, worthy of all this?”

At the end of the 61m, and already old, Ryan visits the captain’s grave to pay tribute to him and asks his wife if he had lived a dignified life, worthy of the sacrifice of his rescue.

Ellen G. White wrote that «the Lord Jesus Christ paid the ransom price of His own blood for us . . . you are His property» (That I May Know Him, p. 59). And that very soon the Lord in eternity will exclaim: «Behold the purchase of My blood! For these I suffered, for these I died, that they might dwell in My presence throughout eternal ages» (The Great Controversy, p. 671).

«Blue blood» is a term used internationally to designate descendants or those belonging to noble or royal families.

No one can attain grace on their own merits. We are all unworthy.

But, like Ryan, we are called to live worthy lives, because of the price paid for our ransom.

We were rescued by the blue blood shed by the Captain and King so that we may live as rescuers. Are you living a life worthy of a child of the King?
