BELOVED

«But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners» (Romans 5:8, NLT).

A few months ago, I had the privilege of interviewing Dannielle Synot for Adventist Radio London. Dannielle is an Australian radio presenter, and the founder of the charitable organization Brave Enough. When Danni was only two years old, her parents got divorced. As soon as her biological father stopped visiting her, her stepfather began to physically and verbally abuse her. Soon afterwards, her mother was diagnosed with depression and Danni felt completely abandoned. After going through so many tragedies, Danni was convinced that she was the problem. She believed there had to be something horrible in her that made people abandon her.

When she got married and got pregnant, she and her husband began looking for a church to attend. Danni was excited about the idea of finally having a complete family. However, when she was eighteen weeks pregnant, she lost her baby. Danni told me she felt like a hand went into her chest and yanked out her heart. After her baby, Jackson, died, Danni was depressed for some time. She could not sleep or eat normally, and she had to stop working for a while.

Danni continued to study the Bible and got baptized. God strengthened her to forgive her parents and use her experience to bless others. Through her charitable organization, today she helps those who have gone through traumatic experiences. Danni believes that Jesus’s love can help us reinterpret and rewrite any story. His love can help us break the chains of feelings of inferiority and hate. God’s love is what grants us our true identity.
Danni had started studying the Bible and at one point she told God in frustration: «The difference is that You knew Jesus was going to rise again!» Then, she heard God tenderly reply, «Your son will also rise again.» Danni was moved to tears as she understood that God had sacrificed His own Son so that Jackson could someday rise again. Was it possible that someone loved her that much? Yes!

Dear Lord, I thank You because through Christ’s sacrifice

I can see my true value. You rewrite my past.

Where it said «abandoned, «You write «chosen.»

Where it said «undervalued, «You write «beloved.»

Your love is what defines me, not my past.
