«Before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear» (Isaiah 65:24).
TECHNOLOGY has invaded every corner of our planet. Quite probably most of us, regardless of where we live in the world or what our salary is, have a smartphone and might have been victims of «phubbing.» Phubbing is the act of ignoring someone you’re speaking with in person in order to engage with your cellular device. Most of us have either been victims of phubbing or have made others be victims of it.
According to research conducted by professors Jennifer Samp and Juhyung Sun, phubbing has to do with our personality. After analyzing the behavior of almost five hundred college students, these professors concluded that «those who are depressed, socially anxious, and neurotic, are more likely to phub» others. Samp says that due to our insecurity and our high levels of anxiety, we often seek «the support of a community and that is where our phones come into play.»
I think no one doubts how useful our phones are to us; but if we truly want to obtain the empathy and attention our overwhelmed souls need, instead of being entranced by our phones, we should go before God’s presence—He will help us with those difficult feelings of sadness, anxiety, and social insecurity. The Lord is always ready to respond to our cries for help.
If there ever was anyone who experienced times of insecurity and anxiety in his life, it was David; however, his experience should be a constant source of motivation for us, so we can be aware of the One who is always ready to help us. The psalmist wrote, «In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears» (Psalm 18:6, NLT).
Our heavenly Father will never phub us. How do we know that? Because this is still His promise: «Before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear» (Isaiah 65:24). While others ignore us, relegate our presence to a less important place, or don’t show the slightest interest in our situation, the God of heaven awaits very expectantly for us to decide to have an honest and open conversation with Him. Right now, He’s expecting our call, and He won’t make us wait; in fact, He already has the answer to our request. He doesn’t phub anyone.
