Q: How do you know if you are ready to get baptized?
A: You’ve asked an important question. It shows that o you’re doing the right thing—thinking about baptism before taking that big step.
One of the most touching stories we’ve heard about baptism happened during some recent evangelistic meetings. A Cuban refugee who had as a judge formerly hated and imprisoned many Seventh-day Adventists gave his heart to the Lord. He was baptized by one of the very men, a pastor, whom he had once imprisoned!
That story shows us exactly what baptism means. It is a desire to give up your old ways and live a new life with Jesus! And it’s a public announcement that you really, really love Jesus and that you want to follow Him all the way.
How do you know you’re ready for baptism? If you accept and understand the basic teachings of the Bible, want more than anything to live by those principles, and love Jesus with all your heart, then you are ready for baptism.
We suggest that you talk with your parents, your pastor, and with Jesus as you get ready for this important step! As you study, pray, and counsel with others, Jesus will let you know when the time is right. And He will be with you all the way.
