BANANAS

Q: My classroom has three boys that all the cool guys exclude from the games. I try to help them, but they just run away because they think that I am going to tease them too. I am ten.

A: As far as I’m concerned, all those «cool» guys are about as «cool» as earwax. Guys that are really cool don’t try to exclude others.

But apparently these three guys have become convinced that they are as useless as rotten bananas. This is obvious because they don’t trust you (or anybody) enough to believe you are sincere in wanting to help them.

I admire you for trying to show them they do have value. Don’t be discouraged—remember how the world treated Christ, even though He just wanted to help. It will take a lot of time to build up that trust. Perhaps you could write them a note, explaining how you feel. Or it may take inviting them to your birthday party or helping them with homework or choosing them to be on your ball team. There are many ways to make them change their minds about you. Just don’t give up, because it will be well worth It. Let them know that others need them and that they can make a valuable contribution. After all, even «rotten» bananas make fabulous muffins!
