AT GOD’S COMMAND

«By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith» (Hebrews 11:7).

D AND D are a missionary couple in one of the most challenging places in the world, where no one wants to go unless you feel called by God. On the occasion of a ministerial support visit, the visitors flew over Mount Ararat, 16,854 feet in height, and remembered the story of Noah. He and his family, eight people in total, were at that same place as the only ones on the whole face of the earth (Gen. 8:13).

Emotion took over D and D as they welcomed the pastors. They had left everything behind, including their non-Adventist family. Before she went out into the mission field, D’S mother had asked her daughter to teach her to pray, so she could pray to God for them. Just like Noah, D and D listened and obeyed.

Noah had invested everything in the construction of the ark After the flood, God made him owner of everything. The first thing he did when he left the ark was to build an altar to worship God. Gratitude took hold of their hearts because God began human history with the family that preserved our race, because they trusted and acted accordingly.

«Here was a lesson for all succeeding generations. Noah had come forth upon a desolate earth, but before preparing a house for himself he built an altar to God. His stock of cattle was small, and had been preserved at great expense; yet he cheerfully gave a part to the Lord as an acknowledgment that all was His» (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 106).

According to Dave Kraft, a study conducted by USA Today found that if most people could ask God a question, it would be this one: «What is my purpose in life?» Noah knew it very well: to obey God. Noah’s faith influenced his mind and he listened to God’s warning. His heart was moved to fear, trust, and to do His will, even though it seemed ridiculous to build an ark without any previous history of rain.

Noah’s faith influenced his whole family and all of them were saved. His faith also condemned everyone, because it exposed their disbelief in rejecting his message and wasting the opportunity God granted them through 120 years of preaching.

Noah means «comfort» and «consolation».

He was comforted in order to comfort.

He discovered and fulfilled a purpose in life. Have you found out yours?
