During a field trip to Washington, Dc, we went to an unusual place one day-Arlington National Cemetery. If you’ve never been there, you’re probably wondering why we would take kids to cemetery as part of a field trip. We were curious too, until we finally got there. This cemetery is a United States military cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington, DC. This huge cemetery is where soldiers have been buried, beginning with those from the American Civil War. There are about four hundred thousand soldiers who have been buried in Arlington. Most of the graves are identical-simple, small white tombstones.
There are two places that I distinctly remember from my visit to Arlington. First of all, we were taken to where President John F. Kennedy is buried. It’s easy to remember because there is a little flame there that never stops burning. The other memorable place we visited was the Tom of the Unknowns.
This is where an unknown soldier from each from each of the previous U.S wars is buried and honored and guarded by army soldiers. The guards are there every single day of the year, and they guard the tomb twenty-four hours a day no matter what the weather is like. If you are home in the middle of a snowy blizzard, just think, there is a soldier there right then, guarding that tomb, and one has been guarding it nonstop since 1937. It’s impressive to think that at all times from 1937 until now, there has always been a guard there.
God wants us to guard our hearts and our minds. Satan is constantly looking for ways to lie to you about God.
God only wants what is good for us, while Satan only wants to destroy us. Ask God today to help you protect your heart and mind from Satan’s attacks.
