AN INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE

«Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid» (Proverbs 12:1).

WISDOM

One of the most shocking sights in my youth was witnessing young Adventists misbehaving in one of our colleges. I was used to seeing all kinds of coarseness in public educational institutions where I had studied, but I must confess that the former had a greater impact than I had imagined.

Perhaps one of the most dramatic matters in regard to the person of Christ has to do with His own followers, that is, Christians. Actually, thousands of those who claim to be believers don’t seem to be excited by Jesus’s teachings, His exemplary life or His soon return to this world. Some even affirm that, in spite of having practiced their faith for years, they still haven’t found Him. Thanks to them, among other reasons, some unbelievers consider Christianity as an outdated phenomenon that must be overcome to give way to other kinds of spiritual propositions.

Some questions therefore come up: Is the Christian message meaningful for our times? Is it possible to have a real encounter with Jesus? Is He interested in the problems of a society like ours? And what’s more, is Jesus Christ really alive?

The Christian experience is an individual matter. It’s not something that can be demonstrated with signs or miracles (that’s what some people who would be happy to reduce Christianity to an esoteric activity would like). That’s why Jesus didn’t fall into the trap of executing wonders in front of people who demanded them from Him. Genuine faith is born out of a personal relationship with Jesus through prayer, Bible study and living with the Lord (Romans 10:17). You can’t love someone you don’t know. Learning to love Jesus requires spending time at His side. That’s how trust in Him and a desire to follow Him are born. That’s why everybody has the possibility to try Him out in their own life.

There are many people who have experienced the power of God in their own lives. Jesus is alive and willing to exert His power in everyone who wishes to make room for Him in their hearts to transform their lives (Revelation 3:20). But now it’s your turn to experience Him. The choice is yours. There’s nothing left to prove.

Are you willing to experience the power of God’s Word? Do you want to receive Jesus in your heart? He’s willing to manifest Himself in your life right now.
