AN ENCOUNTER WITH NOVELTY

ENCOUNTERS WITH JESUS

“And the one sitting on the throne said, ‘Look, I am making erything new!’ » (Revelation 21:5).

The song «Tudo novo» by the Arautos do Rei talks a lot about the way God makes all things new, by mentioning several miracles Jesus performed while He was here on Earth, miracles He performs today, and ones He promised to perform when He returns.

Time and again God ‘s work of restoring men is mentioned in the Bible. However, we see that action was not always easy to accept. In the New Testament, we see that novelty was often not considered correct.

Let us look at the case of some people who refuted everything He did in and of itself, and the case of a close friend, to remember that we could find that reluctance to novelty at every level.

Shortly after the miracle of healing a man who had been blind since birth, at a meeting among the elite in the nation, the Pharisees were faced with one of them, Nicodemus, defending Jesus and claiming He should be heard if He was to be judged. To that, his surprised fellow Pharisees replied, «Are you from Galilee, too? Search the Scriptures and see for yourself—no prophet ever comes from Galilee! » (John 7:52). The leaders were not willing to accept something new was taking place; something that broke down their preconceptions.

On the other hand, we have the story of Martha, who was more familiar with the effects of death than the effects of the Life-giver. When Jesus ordered the stone that hid Lazarus to be rolled away, she quickly objected, «Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible» (John 11:39).

Martha and other friends of Jesus were not ready to accept something new could take place either. What about us?

«When the Lord is about to do a work, Satan moves upon someone to object. . . Christ reproved Martha, but His words were spoken with the utmost gentleness…Natural impossibilities cannot prevent the work of the Omnipotent One» (The Desire of Ages, ch. 58, 535).

God wants to do new things not only in heaven, but in your life today. He comes to you with utmost gentleness and offers to make «all things new, both in your life and in certain church projects where it seems attempts have been made without results. Someone may object, but nothing can prevent the work of the Omnipotent One!
