«But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk» (1 Corinthians 7:17).
God is writing a unique story with my life. Therefore, when I feel inferior as I see the slender bodies, families, and professional successes of other women, I whisper a prayer: «May my story be worthy.» God does not copy and paste. He writes a different plot with each of us. My life wouldn’t be better if it was like that of Laura; it would be Laura’s life, not mine. What matters is not that our stories fit cultural expectations, or size S jeans, but that they be worthy of being told in heaven.
«We must resist the temptation to compare what He asks of us with what He asks of others,» Nancy Leigh DeMoss wrote in Surrender. God has a unique calling for each person. «Regardless of whether you are called to serve Him in a way that seems insignificant or meaningful, discreet or visible, below your abilities or light years above, boring or exciting, common or spectacular . . . Whatever He asks of you, wherever He sends you, the surrendered heart will say together, with Mary of Nazareth, ‘Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word,’ » she added.
God gives us different gifts and callings. The blessings and opportunities received do not have the function of anchoring our identity or defining our personal worth (Christ is the anchor (Hebrews 6:19). Stop comparing yourself. There is no greater or better calling than the one God gave you. «Don’t dishonor God by devaluing the gifts He has given you,» wrote Jon Bloom in his article «Steward the Gifts God Has Assigned to You.» «Don’t waste your precious time grumbling about the gifts you don’t have or feeling resentment toward others for the gifts they possess,» he added. Use what you received for God’s glory. He will give you a reward that is out of proportion; He will write a story with your life that is worth telling in heaven. You will be a living page that tells the story of redemption.
Dear Lord, thank you for giving me a unique body and a calling that are just my size.
Today, I refuse to compare myself to others. I want to dedicate my time to understand my calling and to use the talents You gave me for Your glory.
Write a story worthy of heaven with my life. I surrender to Your plans. I surrender to Your wisdom.
