A SALTY PLACE

By the first day of the month of Noah’s six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw the surface of the ground was dry.  GENESIS 8:13, NIV

When I was a kid we used to take a lot of cross-country road trips from the east coast, where I grew up, to the west coast where a lot of my relatives lived. Driving through Utah was always one of the most scenic parts of our drive. I especially remember many times driving past the huge salt lake just west of Salt Lake City. The lake wasn’t a;; completely a lake. A big part of it was a smooth, dry lake bottom where salt had accumulated when the lake dried up. As a kid I had no idea why all this salt was sitting there at such a high elevation; I just remember being amazed when we’d pull over to the side of the road and we’d stand on the lake to take a picture. My dad would have us touch the surface of the white salt and taste it. Wow, it was salty!

Many years later, I came back through that area, but this time I was the dad and my family was traveling with me. I learned about a place where we could drive out onto the salt flats. It was fun to drive as fast as you wanted, and since there was no road, you could drive in any direction. During our time there, we also stopped so that my family could taste the salt and also ask me why there is a huge salty ocean there, thousands of feet above sea level.

The BIBLE says that a few thousand years ago, a global Flood ravaged the planet and all the dry land was covered with water. Later, the water retreated and the land dried up. It would make sense to see huge areas of the planet that once were covered with water, even at the highest elevation!

I love seeing how often the BIBLE seems to perfectly match with the things we see in nature.

That is why I trust the BIBLE and know it’s the Word of GOD
