«Commit your works to the lord, and your thoughts will be established» (Proverbs 16:3).
The time has come to make a decision. It has to do with your time. It has to do with the fact that God has chosen you, also, as a disciple and has an important purpose for your life. If you are reading this, it is because you are choosing to give God a place in your daily life. However, He wants much more from you and for you.
“Everyone needs to have a personal experience in obtaining a knowledge of the will of God. We must individually hear Him speaking to the heart” (The Desire of Ages, ch. 38, p. 363). In this quotation, we are not invited to a type of empty meditation that is centered on ourselves. We need to know the Word of God in order to recognize that voice in the silence, but when we stop and spend time knowing Him, He will speak to our hearts. He has many ways of doing it, and it is good that we do not close ourselves off to the different ways by which He manifests Himself to us.
It is time for you to start your personal ministry.
Kelly, one of my Sabbath School students, felt she had to do something more and suggested inviting various church members to write down their favorite verses on a piece of paper. She stood at the entrance of the church to do this, and spent some time on Saturday afternoon copying each verse well so she could share them with others by text message or on a some little cards she lovingly prepared.
A group of students from the Euro-Asia Division began to do origami with a motivating message, and then hung them on the doors of their neighbors’ houses. They also prepared the mission story in cartoons to share in class.
The members of a Sabbath School take turns serving at the municipal breakfast bar where many students receive a good meal at the beginning of the day that they would not otherwise have access to.
The possibilities are endless. It may be something small, but it has to be something that distinguishes you, something you can put your passion into, and that God can use for blessing others. It will require sacrifice and time, but it will bring you the greatest satisfactions of your life.
C.S. Lewis said, “The Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next.” As we have already said, it will be time invested in eternity.
