“When God created human beings, he made them to be like himself” (Genesis 5:1).
Perhaps you are like me. When I start humming a melody and don’t know where it’s from, or when I want to remember part of a song and can’t. I feel restless. For people with that slight degree of obsession, or high degree of forgetfulness, there are apps like Shazam. The app allows us to know what we are listening to. By just playing a fragment of a song, Shazam identifies it and provides the information we need so we much. hear It with does millions that by creating a unique digital footprint that compares what of other songs in its database.
A computer engineer friend of mine explains the algorithms needed for those kinds of platforms, how databases work and how they use repeated patterns to easily recognize everything within a matter of milliseconds. What to me is an inexplicable science, he explained is quite a simple process.
In her profile «Construyendo Pilares» [Building pillars], my sister, who is an educational psychologist and avid reader, shared a list of ten indicators of spiritual maturity, drawn from some of the books she read. They are: having a transcendental relationship with something bigger than oneself, developing a lifestyle and behavior that is consistent with our spiritual values, making a commitment without being certain of everything, appreciating spiritual diversity without fearing it, fighting against one’s own egocentric inclination, believing that both reason and emotion are essential in human development, being concerned for others and showing solidarity, being tolerant and rejoicing over life’s small blessings, being aware of the fact there is evil and suffering, and being compassionate and making room for both traditional beliefs and private interpretations.
Can you identify with any of those? If someone thought of those qualities, would they immediately think of you in a matter of milliseconds?
The “magic” of Shazam can also apply to our lives. We can be the true and immediate reflection of God’s image. Let’s feed our database today! There are many who need to remember a forgotten melody.
