A BEFORE AND AN AFTER IN YOUR LIFE

«Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen any God besides You, who acts for the one who waits for Him» (Isaiah 64:4).

GEORGE MILLER (1805—1898) lived a wild life during his youth: gambling, swindling, lying, stealing, and other crimes that ended up leading him to jail when he was only seventeen years old. On one occasion when he was invited to the home of a Christian family, he felt a deep desire to read the Bible, and that reading led him to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. He was so impacted by the Messiah that he lef the lifestyle he had led up to that time. He learned to live with Jesus and for Jesus, and became a minister of the gospel.

One time, when he had barely ten dollars in his pocket, he thought, «I will trust in God,» and founded an orphanage with that money. He and his wife established a shelter for thirty girls in their own home, and his ministry was so successful that they had to construct a building that would house three hundred orphaned children. On occasion, his wife and he did not have the resources necessary to feed the children they were sheltering, but time after time, they saw how God provided for the basic needs of everyone. In time, they directed five orphanages in which more than two thousand children lived. It is incredible how God works in people. He can change a delinquent into a person who is committed to those who suffer, devoted to reading the Bible and prayer, and willing to share the love of Christ.

We all have something in our past, in our present, or in our character from which God wants to set us free. He wants to transform our lives. Will we allow ourselves to be molded by Him? Will we allow His Holy Spirit to work His fruits in us?

«But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law» (Galatians 5:22, 23). «Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry…. since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him» (Colossians 3:5-10). Amen.
