I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, And on Your wondrous works. PSALM 145:5, NKJV
Every chance I get I love to go snorkeling; it’s one of my favorite activities to do in nature. Since I live in Michigan, I don’t get a chance to go snorkeling as much as I would like, so every time I am traveling somewhere warm and tropical, I check to see if there are any reefs near by to explore. One summer when I was in Jordan for an archeological dig, our group went on a weekend tour to the south of the country, which touches the Red Sea. Yes, the same Red Sea you’ve read about in the Bible story about Moses and the Israelites. It was neat being there at the Red Sea, but it was also exciting to learn there was a reef in the waters there. Three of us arranged for a side trip that would take us to a spot down the coast that was supposedly one of the best spots to snorkel. We arrived and the people there equipped us with fins, masks, and snorkels. Moments later we dipped into the water to snorkel, right off the shore.
I have been snorkeling in many spots all over the world—from the Great Barrier Reef in Australia to the Caribbean and Hawaii—and I generally try not to compare them, but from my personal experience, this was the most amazing snorkeling spot. The reef wall was full of all kinds of marine creatures of every size, shape, and color. I had never seen so much diversity of coral in one place. The water was clear, and the variety of fish was incredible. We snorkeled for hours, and it was not long enough. I wanted to stay and see more, but it was time to return.
I left that day amazed by an incredible display of God’s creation. It reminded me that everywhere on earth there is evidence of God’s power and love as seen in HIS creation. No matter where you go today, look around and see God’s nature and be inspired by HIS wondrous works!
