The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore. PSALM 121:8, NKJV
During the year I studied in France, a few times I bought a rail pass that allowed me to use the trains all I wanted for two weeks. Some trains in Europe are not like the trains in North America. Instead of endless rows of seats on either side of a middle aisle, each rail car contains a bunch of individual compartments that hold two bench seats that face each other. The neat thing is that the facing seats can actually fold down to create one giant flat bed at night. It wasn’t the most glamorous accommodation, but I saw this as an acceptable solution for sleeping at night, and of course, very affordable. If you have ever traveled in Europe, you know that it can be expensive, especially for students like we were.
During this trip, the three friends and I decided to try an experiment. The idea was to use the train as our hotel every night. All we had to do was go to the train station each night and find a train that was going somewhere that would take at least eight or ten hours to reach. During the night we’d find empty compartments, fold down the seats, and sleep until we reached the next city. For almost two weeks we did this every night. We’d jump on the train one evening in Copenhagen, and wake up in Paris. The next night we’d jump on the train and sleep till we reached Venice. You get the idea. For two weeks we crisscrossed Europe each night in order to save money on lodging. It was a strange way to lodge, but it actually worked for us.
Throughout my life, I was taught to pray before going anywhere. Even Today, before I travel anywhere, I pray, asking GOD for travel protection and that HIS will be done in my journey. Ask GOD today and every day to be part of your journey.
