» … (for the LORD your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.» DEUTERONOMY 4:31, NKJV
During a trip to Australia, we knew we had to visit one of the most famous places on the continent—the Great Barrier Reef. It’s well-known for being the largest reef in the world and the largest concentration of life in one place. We flew into the city of Cairns in Queensland, in the northeast part of the country. At the airport, we got our rental car then found a place to stay. We also found a tour company that would take us out to the reef on a boat. If you’ve ever gone to a reef in the Caribbean, it’s often accessible right from the beach. The Great Barrier Reef is not like that. You have to take a boat a couple of hours out into the ocean. We booked a tour and made plans to be there bright and early the next morning. Traveling to Australia from North America often involves jet lag, so we went to sleep early to make sure we were well rested for the next day.
The next morning, we geared up and went to the dock and boarded the boat. Soon we were on our way to the reef. It took us about two hours to get to the location where this company took its tourists, a shallow reef right against a wall that dropped down a hundred feet or so. There were nice shallow areas for those of us who wanted to snorkel. For those wanting to dive, there were deep areas as well. I am not certified to dive, so my plan was to snorkel, and for the next hour I marveled at the incredibly diverse marine life I was able to observe. We were out there for hours, and it was unforgettable.
Why are there some things in life we forget and others that we’ll ‘never forget? The good news is that GOD is not a forgetful GOG. He has made hundreds of promises of love and protection in the Bible. I love knowing that He will never forget a single promise.
