Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. EPHESIANS 6:11, NKJV
We landed in Cusco, Peru, high in the Andean mountains, more than eleven thousand feet above sea level. Cusco is a beautiful, historic city where you are greeted with very thin air because of the high elevation. Some people get sick under these conditions, but it didn’t affect me. I found it interesting that after getting off the airplane, you are immediately greeted with a person who offers you a free cup of tea. You are encouraged to drink it because they have discovered that this particular type of tea has positive effects in dealing with altitude sickness. As soon as we arrived at the hotel and walked into the lobby, we were again served this same tea, free. On the street, vendors were selling the tea, and that evening at our restaurant we sat down and, without asking, the server automatically brought us a cup of tea to start with. Clearly the people there in Cusco wanted to do everything possible to keep us from getting altitude sickness.
I’ve been to higher altitudes in the past and never gotten sick, but I was still grateful to the people, and I went along with the «tea medicine» while I was there. The surprise came later when I decided to ask what kind of tea I was drinking. They nonchalantly said the tea was made from coca leaves—which are used to make the dangerous drug called cocaine. The leaves have to go through a rigorous chemical process in order to make the drug, but I was still quite alarmed when I found out about this.
All that time I thought I was putting something good in my body, but was I? Satan works like that; he’s always sneaking and deceiving. He’s always trying to hide the truth. If you want to stand up to Satan’s tricks, put on the armor of GOD today.
His armor is things like truth, righteousness, peace, filth, the Word of GOD, and prayer.
