«But whoever drinks the water 1 give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.» JOHN 4:14, NIV
Before hiking down the Grand Canyon, one of the most important factors of our hike was to make sure we had plenty of water. There were many signs around each trailhead warning hikers to make sure they took enough water. By late afternoon we were on our way back up the canyon after finishing our filming. As we hiked up, we took breaks every once in a while in a shady spot. We were still about an hour from the rim when all of a sudden, a young woman came around the corner on her way up the canyon by herself. She was about seventeen years old, and I sensed something was wrong. As she passed by, I stopped her and asked, «Excuse me, are you OK?» That’s when I noticed she was in tears and something was clearly wrong. She cried even more as she told me that her family had decided they would hike down into the canyon but didn’t think they would need to bring any water since they’d only be gone a couple of hours. This was clearly a huge mistake her family had made.
People had died of dehydration on this trail before. She finally decided to leave her family behind and turn around and head back to the rim to find water. She looked dangerously dehydrated, and her lips were cracked. I told her, «It’s still another hour to the rim; you better drink some of my water» At that moment a look of shock came over her face, and she started to cry even more. «Are you serious? You’re willing to share your water with me?» I responded, «Of course. You really need to get some water in you so you can make it to the rim.» She eagerly gulped the water, and then out of nowhere she hugged me.
«Thank you so much, sir!»
she said, still crying. And before she left, she also said, «May GOD bless you!» When we are a blessing to others, GOD has promised to bless us too. Go out today and be a blessing to others!
