THREE IN ONE PLACE

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, people, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with whites’ robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”  REVELATION 7:9,10, KNJV

Before leaving Jerusalem, I wanted to visit the Dome of the Rock. This is one of the most important religious locations for three major world religions: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Visiting the Dome of the Rock requires preparation. Because it was summer, I was wearing shorts, but I knew that if I wanted to visit the Dome of the Rock, I would not be allowed in with shorts. Near the entrance I stopped, opened my daypack, and pulled out a pair of pants to wear over my shorts. Naturally, I felt funny putting on pants in the middle of the street.

At the entrance there is an area where visitors can borrow the appropriate clothes to wear in order to be allowed to enter. Men have to wear pants, and women have to wear a long dress and a head covering. Finally, I was allowed into the area surrounding the Dome of the Rock and proceeded to go to the spot where a temple stood. The temple was old, but not from Bible times; it was built in the seventh century. Muslims believe this was the spot where, according to tradition, the prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven. For Jews and Christians, they believe it is the location where Abraham almost sacrificed his son, Isaac. For Christians, it is believed to be the location where the original temple was built. Getting into the compound required through security screening. Up until 1967, only Muslims were allowed to visit; even while I was there I was not allowed to bring any non-Muslim artifacts or books on site, nor was I allowed to pray there.

The way we dress says a lot. In most cultures, special attire is expected at school or in an office. When we go to worship in GOD’s house, we should dress in a way that shows respect to GOD.

Besides, God says He will have special clothing prepared for you in heaven!
