Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid of terrified because of them, for the Lord you God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. DEUTERONOMY 31:6, NIV
While visiting Bermuda with my family, we spent some time exploring a few different beaches. In fact, the island is so small that no matter where we stayed, we were always within walking distance of a beach.
On one of the days, a local pastor told me he was going to take us swimming at a unique place. Soon he arrived along with his family, and we all piled into his car and headed out. About ten minutes later, we stopped and parked the car in a parking lot that appeared to belong to a hotel or resort.
Apparently the spot we were going to was open to the public, because we walked to the back of the main building and through some gardens to a cave opening. We went into the cave and down a set o stairs to a place where the cave suddenly got a lot bigger. This was no ordinary cave, though, because the bottom of it was filled with water.
Along the edge there were some areas where people could walk, but the majority of the cave bottom was filled with water. A couple of lights lit the cave so we could see through crystal-clear water to the bottom of the cave down below. At the deepest part it seemed to be around twenty feet deep. The edges of the cave lake were very dark, and we couldn’t see what was below the surface. I jumped in the water all alone at first and swam around. I have to admit, at first it was creepy swimming around the edges where I couldn’t see what was under me.
In life we will have to face some times when we are afraid of unknowns. No one knows the future except God, but our BIBLE verse reminds us to be strong and courageous, because God will be with you every step of the way!
