Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. PSALM 119:105, NIV
Have you ever been to Mount ST. Helens in Washington? Mount ST. Helens is a volcano that had a massive eruption on may 18, 1980. It left a huge crater on the top and many other fascinating features to explore. On one particular trip we decided to visit the south side of the mountain, where we could explore some lava tubes. The hike took a while, but it finally led to a place on the side of the mountain where there was a depression in the ground. At the bottom of the sunken area was a small hole barely big enough to fit a person. There was also a metal ladder to help you get down into the lava tube.
At some time in the past when flowed during an eruption, the paths were covered up, and the lava flowed down the mountain through tunnels.
When the flowing lava stopped, the tunnels remained empty and ready to be explored. This particular lava tube could be followed down the side of Mount St. Helens for a couple of miles.
There were no fancy sidewalks, no electricity and no maps. In many areas of the tunnel, the ceiling had caved in, so you had to be ready to scramble over twenty-foot-tall piles of rock. And if I turned my light off, it was a kind of darkness that can only be experienced in a cave. It really made me appreciate my flashlight, because being in a place like that without light would have been awful.
There will be dark and difficult times during the hike of life. God gave us the BIBLE to guide us and to be a light for our path. I’m so happy to have the Lord as the Guide in my life. He has a light that will never go out.
Will you invite Him to be your Guide today?
