You are the God who performs miracles; You display your power among the people. PSALMS 77:14, NIV
Some people don’t believe in miracles. I do. Something happened when I was about ten years old that removed any doubt in my mind about whether miracles happen or not. We lived in Massachusetts at the time. My mom and dad worked, and my mother also took sewing projects to make a little extra money for our family. She made little dolls with incredible dresses using lace and sequins. On Sundays, my mom would take my sister and me to a nearby city where we would go door to door selling my mom’s creations. One Sunday we stayed out late, and it was dark. On the way home, we stopped at a store in a plaza on the edge of town to buy more materials. We stayed so long that the store finally closed, and when we went to our car we noticed there were only one or two other cars left in the parking lot. Our car was parked way in the corner in the dark. When we go to our car we discovered we had a flat tire. None of us knew how to change the tire, and of course there were no cell phones back then. We poked around in the truck trying to get the spare out. But it was hopeless.
It was late, it was dark, we were clueless, and we were alone. The situation seemed quite hopeless. That’s when I quietly snuck to the front of the car, knelt down, and prayed, a car far away in the street suddenly turned off and came straight to us. A man got out and said he thought he recognized our car. None of us had ever seen this man before, nor did we understand how he could recognize our car in the dark.
In a few minutes he change our tire and left. Let me tell you, God is listening. Sometimes He answers fast, sometimes slow. Sometimes He answers Yes and sometimes No.
Since that day I never had doubt that God can do miracles in our lives.
Just ask.
