PASS IT ON

He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned” MARK 16:15, 16

Merced, California is called the “Gateway to Yosemite” because the city is located in the central valley where much of the traffic entering Yosemite National park crosses. During a trip to visit my parents, my brother and sister and I made a plan to go up to the Yosemite Park on Sunday for a day hike. This was no ordinary day hike, though. Our goal was to climb one of the park’s most famous spots, Half Dome, a huge granite rock that looks like a rock dome that’s been split in half, with sheer rock wall rising almost five thousand feet up from the valley floor. The hike from the valley was about thirteen mile long, so it was important that we star hiking before the sun rose that day. The first part of the j=hike would take us up to Vernal Falls. Next the trail proceeded through miles of backcountry as we circle around to approach half Dome from the opposite side.

The closer we got, the bigger Half Dome looked. Soon we stood before this huge granite rock and saw the cable route we would need to take up a steep part of the rock. The final four-hundred-foot ascent was steep, going up the rock between two steel cables used as handholds.  Carefully we proceeded up the steep slope, making sure we always had at least one hand on tight. We made it to the top and stoop at the edge of the cliff wall, almost five thousand feet above Yosemite Valley! The view was incredible, and I felt as though I could see the whole world!

I was reminded of the classic praise song, Pass It On.

The second verse talks about wanting the whole worlds to know about the joy find when you depend on God by shouting it from the mountaintop.

Do you have joy in your heart? Let others see it; pass it on!
