The fourth of July is a special day in the United States because it’s Independence Day. In 1776 our first leaders decide they would create a new country in order to establish certain law and liberties. Every year millions of Americans celebrate by gathering with friends, eating together, and watching fireworks at night. One fourth of July several years ago we had about thirty people at our home top celebrated. In the evening we had our own little firework show. A few days or weeks beforehand, all people who were planning to attend contributed a few dollars, which I put in a big pile and then bought as many fireworks as possible. Each year my brother-in-law and I go to the fireworks store and look for the best deals and the biggest bang for our buck, literally.
As darkness dell, we gave the kids sparklers to start playing with while I and a couple of other brave guys went down to the far end of our property to set as our base on the grass. We had flashlights and lighters, and one by one we unpacked each of the fireworks and made sure each wick was ready to light. On this one night, as we were lighting our fireworks, someone accidently stepped on the plywood sheet, causing one of the fireworks we had just lit to fall down, directly pointing at our audience! The firework shot directly at group, but we were blessed that no one was hurt. You can say they had never seen a firework so close in their lives!
Freedom usually comes with a price, and many people have given their lives so that we can have our freedom. We should be grateful that God has blessed us with freedom, but now we are reminded to use that freedom to bless and serve one another.
