NEVER GIVE UP

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.                 PHILIPPIANS 2:14, 15 NIV

During the 1990’s Cuba went through a very difficult period, and people struggle due to shortages. While visiting there, I decide to spend a few days in the capital, Havana, and then drive east to a town called Camajuani, where another group of my relatives lived. Because of the shortages, even getting around the island was difficult. It was finally decided that a cousin from Camajuani would drive to Havana to pick us up. The distance from Havana to Camajuani is about 170 miles, so under normal circumstances, it should’ve taken us about three hours to get there. We got on the national highway and left Havana behind, but I soon discovered that the shortages in Cuba had also affected the highway system-it was a full of enormous potholes! We were driving in a small Russian car called a Lada from the 1960,. And as we left the city, we had to slow down to about twenty-five to thirty miles per hour in order to dodge the hundreds of potholes.

But it was impossible to miss every single one. After an hour, one of our tires went flat-but people there didn’t replace tires, they repaired them, and so we did just that. A couple of hours later, we got another flat. Again, we repaired it. A couple of hours later, the car broke down. We pulled over, and our cousin pulled out a bunch of tools from the truck, and he fixed the car. I was so impressed by our cousin’s never quit attitude! It took us almost ten hours to drive the 170 miles, but our cousin never gave up, and he never got upset.

Do you ever grumble and complain about things when they don’t go your way? Make a choice today to always have a good attitude. Don’t be a complainer.

Let your words be positive.

Ask God to help you attitude shine like a star in the sky!
