But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.
JAMES 1:14, NIV
During my years studying in architectures school, there were a few challenges I had to deal with. First of all, every semester we were required to take a studio class, which meant we had to spend a lot of time at our drafting tables drawing buildings. Drafting tables are huge desks where you can change the angle of the surface by tilting it upward. We would then take a giant sheet of paper and tape it to the desk and star drawing. The architecture building had several studios-a large room with a bunch of these drafting tables, one for each student. Every once in a while we’d get a large project to do. While most university students simply go to the library or study in their dorm room, we architecture students had to do our projects at the studio because we couldn’t have a drafting table in our dorm room. Because of that, the university allowed us to stay in the building into the wee hours of the morning working on our projects.
Once in a while at 1:00 A.M we would get so tired we’d take a break and do something unusual to help wake us up. One time we played indoor “archibaseball,” using cardboard tubes and wads of paper rolled up into a ball. Another time we moved drafting tables into a giant circle and rode our bikes around the top of them as if it were a track. Although nothing was damaged, I didn’t’ figure out till later that it wasn’t a very good idea to do that, since something may have broken or someone may have gotten hurt.
In life we often make poor decisions. Sometimes we don’t even realize it till years later. Our feelings and desires cause us to make bad decisions, and when that happens the consequences can be hurtful.
When we are close to God, His desires become our desires. Ask God to help you with each decision you make today!
