“And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever» (Exodus 14:13).
Everything was going great until news that the Egyptians were coming reached them. How quickly they forgot about God’s paternal care! They preferred slavery and death in Egypt rather than the test they were facing. It’s easy to talk about God’s protection when life is smiling at us and the hand of God is visible in our circumstances. But genuine faith is needed when conflicts, losses, and tragedy afflict us. When «the Egyptians» are pursuing you with a financial crisis, abandonment by a loved one, sickness, pandemics, unemployment, family conflicts, or criticism, personalize this promise, stay calm, and remember that «The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace» (Exodus 14:14).
God’s words through Moses were firm: Do not be afraid. Stop weeping, stand still. They needed faith to believe these words as they were trapped between the Red Sea and the Egyptian armed forces. They had two options: trust in God or give in to panic. When there is no solution to your situation, you also have two options: God’s promises or your fears.
God, who is an expert in the impossible, is willing to listen to your desperate cries and your terrifying fear, just as He listened to the trembling, unbelieving Israelites. If you call on Him, if you listen to His voice and follow His instructions, God will open up a path through any stormy sea in your path. «Often the Christian life is beset by dangers, and duty seems hard to perform. The imagination pictures impending ruin before and bondage or death behind. Yet the voice of God speaks clearly, ‘Go forward.’ We should obey this command, even though our eyes cannot penetrate the darkness, and we feel the cold waves about our feet. The obstacles that hinder our progress will never disappear before a halting, doubting spirit. Those who defer obedience till every shadow of uncertainty disappears and there remains no risk of failure or defeat, will never obey at all. Unbelief whispers, ‘Let us wait rill the obstructions are removed, and we can see our way clearly;’ but faith courageously urges an advance, hoping all things, believing all things….The path where God leads the way may lie through the desert or the sea, but it is a safe path.»-Patriarchs and Prophets, ch. 25, pp. 290,291.
Soon, chose «Egyptians» who are pursuing you today, whatever they may be, will disappear from your life forever.
