«Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes’ » (Mark 9:23).
It all started when Becky Murray saw a nine-year-old girl, Felicity, walking barefoot through Sierra Leone. She immediately bought her some sandals for fifty cents and invited her to attend the evangelistic campaign they were having that night in a tent. That night, Felicity asked Becky: «Should I wait at the hotel?» Becky didn’t understand what the girl meant and told her that the campaign was about to begin and that they could walk together to the tent. When Felicity replied, «Yes, but shouldn’t I wait in your hotel room?» Becky understood what was happening. The girl thought Becky wanted to receive sexual favors in exchange for the sandals. That day, Becky promised that she would do her part to stop child abuse.
After a period of preparation, Becky participated in another missionary trip, but this time, to Kenya. When she arrived, she continued to pray, and God told her she should buy a piece of land. She had no money, but she told a local pastor about her dream. As she spoke, the pastor’s eyes filled with tears and he said, «l have just inherited a piece of land and God wants me to give it to you.» Although she had the land, Becky had no money for construction costs. «l had to trust that God would give me a huge amount of money,» Becky told me while she recounted her story. «Never before had I needed to have such great faith. I had moments of doubt when I wondered if God had really spoken to me.» Despite her fears, she continued to move forward by faith. Thanks to a series of miracles, large and small, she received all the money she needed to build her first children’s home.
Her organization, One by One, currently has homes and schools for children in three countries: Kenya, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. «The enemy is so cunning that if he can prevent you from taking a step of faith, if he can convince you not to do what God called you to do, he will. If he can stop you before you start, he will,» Becky said to me.
«There are so many miracles we are not a part of because we don’t take a step of faith! We have little power to transform the world because we dare only a little, we bet on the safe and not on faith. This morning, remember that there are hundreds of children like Felicity who have a different life because Becky dared to believe.
Increase my faith, dear Lord.
