THERE IS ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE

«Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us» (Ephesians 3:20).

On Thursdays, at the company where I work, our boss brings snacks to share: sweet cookies, fruits, and cereal bars. As soon as we hear the announcement on the loudspeaker: «There are snacks in the kitchen. Help yourselves,» we all rush there. We all hurry to get there on time as if we had heard a starting pistol. Getting distracted means getting to the kitchen when only wrappers are left.

The Bible tells that Jairus, the leader of a synagogue, threw himself at Jesus’s feet and begged him to heal his daughter (see Mark However, as they were on their way, a woman «sneaked in,» touched Jesus’s garment, and was healed. I wonder how Jairus felt about the delay. After all, he had come first! While Jesus was still talking to the woman, news came: Jairus’s daughter had died. There was no reason to disturb the Master anymore. It seemed that the woman’s miracle had cost the life of his daughter. They had «wasted» time. The woman had taken the last bit!

Sometimes it is difficult to rejoice in the blessings of others. You see your ex-boyfriend marry another woman and you’re still single; or you don’t get pregnant and around you, everyone seems to be happily expecting. Someone else gets that promotion that you wanted so much . . . Sin leads us to adopt a mentality of scarcity. We see success and blessings as limited and individual resources, but they are not. Other people’s gain is never our loss. Jesus stopped to help the woman, but He had enough power for Jairus as well. In the kingdom of God, when others win, you win. There’s enough for everyone. Jesus said to Jairus: «Do not be afraid; only believe.» The delay became a blessing. Jairus witnessed an even greater miracle when Jesus resurrected

When we feel tempted to envy the blessings of others, let us remember that no gift is for personal use. Thus, when others win, you win. Do not be afraid; only believe.

Dear Lord, help me to remember that Your blessings are inexhaustible, to live in the abundance of Your presence, and not in the scarcity of envy.

I want to rejoice in other people’s success. I don’t want to let roots of bitterness and comparison grow in my heart, I want to believe, not fear.
