Have you ever given up your seat to an older person? It’s a good habit and a way to show respect.
Lack of respect makes many people become insensitive and not give up their seats to a mother with a baby or an older person who needs it more than they do.
No doubt, they don’t know the Decalogue of Ten Commandments, because each one of them teaches us to be respectful (you’ll find them in Exodus 20).
The first four commandments talk about the respect God deserves our Creator; and the last six teach us to respect our parents and others.
When someone doesn’t respect traffic laws, there’s always an accident. Likewise, when we don’t respect our parents, our family unity is broken. And when we don’t respect God, we also break off our relationship with Him and we forget His love toward us.
The Bible teaches the importance of respecting God and others to live peacefully and happily, but it also teaches us the importance of respecting ourselves.
Do you remember the story of Daniel and his friends in Babylon? They respected the laws of Babylon, because it was the authority that governed them. And they respected God when they didn’t bow down before the golden statue King Nebuchadnezzar had built. But they also respected their personal values and principles when they didn’t eat or drink things that weren’t healthy for their bodies.
Would you like others to respect you* Then respect them first; also respect God and respect yourself by making sure nobody makes you act against your values and principles.
