Have you ever dressed up like a biblical character?
I’m sure you have worn a costume sometime at school, at church, or at home.
Today I propose that you research the clothing of some very special characters: the priests.
The priests carried out a very important mission in the sanctuary. They were in charge of making the sacrifices, of making sure that there was always bread on the table in the Holy Place and that the lamps had enough oil so that they would not go out, and to watch over everything that was in that place. The leader of the priests, the high priest, was the only one who entered the Most Holy Place once a year.
God gave Moses instructions on how the priests should dress, of every piece of clothing they should wear. Why? God wanted them to wear that kind of uniform so that the people would distinguish from others, because their work is special.
The ephod was a sort of vest with bells that rang and precious stones that had the names of the tribes of Israel engraved on them.
And on top of the ephod went the «chest piece,» which was square and had four rows of three precious stones each. In addition, in the chestpiece of the high priest there were two stones called «Urim» and «Thummim» that helped the people to know the will of God. When there was a decision to make, the high priest consulted God and He answered through these stones. If there was light on the Urim, the answer was «yes,» but if there was a shadow on the Thummim, the answer was «no.»
With the help of an adult, research on the Internet what the precious stones of the priest’s breastplate were. Then draw them and color them in your Prayer Journal.
