Q: Will I be in heaven?
A: I once had a dream. In it I stood on a mountaintop • watching the Second Coming. There was Jesus, and the angels, lots of clouds, and even someone blowing a trumpet.
Everyone around me started rising up into the air, happy smiles on their faces. I waited . . . and waited . . . and nothing happened. For a second I made a little jump—you know, to get my journey to heaven started—but it didn’t work. Suddenly I realized that I wasn’t going to go.
With terrible sadness I sat down on a rock and began to cry. I woke up and found warm tears on my cheeks. Boy, was I glad that was just a dream!
Since then, I’ve discovered something wonderful about God, and something terrible about Satan. God wants us to look forward to our new home with eager anticipation. Satan tries to get us to keep asking the question «Will I be in heaven?» He’s the one that makes us doubt. And he’s the one who planted that horrible thought in my mind that turned into a frightening dream.
We must fight such fearful ideas. We must say to ourselves, «I’ve given my life to Jesus, and He’s building a mansion for me. The decision has already been made. I’ll be in heaven because Jesus paid for my ticket with His own blood. As long as I give my will to God, as long as I allow Him to teach me new things from my mistakes, as long as I recognize that Jesus’ perfect life makes up for my imperfect one, heaven is my future home.» Forget doubts.
Forget dreams.
And remember Jesus.
