THE ONE WHO RULER IS GOD

«Many seek the ruler’s favor, but justice for man comes from the Lord» (Proverbs 29:26).

Nebuchadnezzar Il ascended to the throne of Babylon in the year 605 BC, after the death of Nabopolassar, his father. Besides being a visionary man and great warrior, the king of Babylon was very intelligent. He also promoted the architectural development of the capital of the empire with constructions such as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, considered until today one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. When he was at the height of success, God Himself showed him the political future of the world through an enigmatic dream that he forgot when he woke up. Later, the prophet Daniel revealed the dream and its interpretation: the monarch had dreamed of a statue made up of various metals: the golden head, the silver chest, the bronze torso, the iron legs, and the feet of clay mixed with iron (Daniel 2:31-45).

Each of the parts of the statue represented a stage in the history of humankind. The golden head represented the Babylonian Empire of Nebuchadnezzar Il. But then the hegemony of the Medo-Persian Empire, represented by the silver chest, would come. The bronze torso symbolized the ascent of the Greek Empire of Alexander the Great, followed by the Roman Empire, characterized by the iron legs. Once Rome fell, the world would be conformed by powerful and weak countries and there would never again be an empire similar to those of antiquity, as was represented by the feet of part iron and part clay. Then a rock from heaven destroyed the statue, which represents the second coming of Jesus who will establish the kingdom of God in this world.

Nebuchadnezzar understood the message from heaven, but he did not want to accept it. He built a gold statue on the outskirts of Babylon. With that, he launched a fearless challenge to the God of heaven, assuring that his kingdom (represented by the head of gold) would last forever (Daniel 3). While he was walking along the terrace of his palace, he observed the beauty of the capital of his empire and said, «Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?» (Daniel 4:30). At that moment he lost his reason. He lived as a beast for seven years until he recognized the sovereignty and power of the God of heaven.

God is the true Ruler of this world. Acknowledge that today and ask Him to help you conduct your life in the best way.
