«Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, they would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies» (Proverbs 1:29-31).
DECISIONS
When I was in high school, I used to teach Bible studies to several friends. The mother of one of them was interested in knowing the Word of God and took advantage of any opportunity to invite others to listen to what I said. One day, a young family friend arrived while we were studying. I perceived that, on entering, he looked at me with some annoyance. Right away, my friend’s mother invited him to sit with us. But he rejected the offer. She continued to insist, always in a very cordial tone, until he said in a definite way: «Look, ma’am, I’m not interested in these things. I’m too young to get involved with those types of things.» «But this is for all kinds of people,» replied the lady.
«The truth is that I am interested in things like UFOs or similar issues, That is what catches my attention.»
To this day I remember this boy for his arrogance in speaking and the way he despised the Word of God, believing that he had much to live because he was young and assuming that the Christian faith is something that is boring, dull, and anachronistic. Do you share the opinion of that boy? Do you think that Bible teachings are annoying and uninteresting for a young person? I don’t think so. I read the Bible from cover to cover when I was fifteen years old. Then I did it again in just three months. Then I was passionately interested with the study of Scripture. I think the Scriptures contain the greatest teachings a young person needs in order to face life.
The truth is that no one has purchased life or knows how much remains of their life to live. What happens then to those who consistently reject the grace of God? They simply reveal to Heaven their deep contempt for the salvation that Jesus has provided. They may continue in this world for some time—which God only knows— but their future will be defined once they descend into the grave. There will also come a time when the intercessory work that Christ does today in the heavenly sanctuary comes to an end, indicating that the saving grace will be over. Why? Because the Lord already knows who loves Him in a genuine way and understands that the rest of the world will not accept His forgiveness. Today is the time to accept His grace. Do it.
