«When you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it». 1 Corinthians 10:13, NIV
ARMENIA is a country located between Asia and Europe, bordered by Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran. In Turkey, 99 percent of the inhabitants profess the Muslim religion. In Iran, 99 percent are also Muslim. In Azerbaijan, 95 percent are Muslim. In contrast, 91 percent of Armenia’s inhabitants consider themselves Christians. Armenia was a Persian colony, then it became part of the Ottoman Empire; it was also conquered by the Soviet Union. All these were powers that opposed Christianity; however, Armenians did not abandon their faith in God. How is that?
Perhaps the secret lies in a statement by historian Sozomen, who in the late fifth century believed Armenians were the first to declare themselves a Christian nation. According to historian Eusebius of Caesarea, Armenia converted to Christianity in the year 311, and that decision was enough for Emperor Maximian to declare war against it.
One of the most iconic events for the Armenian people came when, in the fifth century, the patriarch Sajak asked Mesrop to translate the Bible into Armenian. Until that time, Armenian was not a written language, but an oral one; so Mesrop, a Christian, had to create written Armenian, and the Bible was a key element in the «development of their national spirit.» When the Persians took control of Armenia in the year 450, Armenia’s Christian leaders sent a message saying, «From this faith no one can shake us . . . Do what you want.»•
What about us? Can we say, «From this faith no one can shake us?» The Armenians are an example of what Paul said: «No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it» (1 Corinthians 10:13, NIV).
There’s no reason to give up, to renounce, to deny our faith because of trials. With each painful experience, God promises He will provide a way for us to overcome. Your trial will be the means God will use for nothing and no one to be able to separate you from your faith in Him.
