“And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone
who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life;
and I will raise him up at the last day”
(John 6:40).
HUMANS have always had an interest in the future; we have even dared to predict it. In May 2015 an American magazine shared with its readers some of GB the most horrible predictions in history.* In an article published in the same magazine it was foretold that by the year 2000 there would be no more wars and that the poor would be living in high-rise buildings. Another author ventured to predict that on that same year there would be no more mice. In 2O0ó, in answer to the question of “when will Apple come out with a cell phone,’ David Pogue replied, «Probably never!’ In 1954, scientist Lewis L. Strauss affirmed that scientific advances would put an end to famines.
However, the worst prediction to have ever been heard by humans came from Satan’s mouth when he told Eve,” You will not surely die . . you will be like God” (Genesis 3:4, 5). Unfortunately, our first parents believed Satan and went in search of the supposed promise of immortality.
Did what the serpent foretell take place? Of course not. We have all seen the failure of Satan’s prediction and have had to deal with the death of a loved one. Eachnew dawn brings us face to face with the falsehood of the enemy’s words. The stench of death is breathed in every corner of our sin-sunken planet.
Do we truly want to experience immortality? Then we should draw near with the One who “abolished death and brought life and immortality to light” (2 Timothy 1:10). And who was that? Our Lord Jesus Christ. He offers us the possibility of living forever, of breaking the power death holds over us. This is the wonderful promiseJesus makes to us: “And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who seesthe Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day» (John 6:40).
We are all exposed to death for having believed Satan‘s promise, but if we believe Christ‘s promise we will have everlasting life, and those who have died will rise again. I invite you to believe God, because He never fails to do what He has promised.
