for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand”
(Isaiah 41:10).
One of the reasons for the Jews to deposit their trust in the promises of liberation was the fact that God would raise up a liberator, Cyrus the Great, a noble, wise, generous, and humane man. This shows us that God can use pagan kings to project and care for His people, because God controls all the empires of the world. He gave the name of the liberator years before the Jews were taken captive, the same way the plan of salvation was establishedbefore the appearance of sin.
In spite of the fact that Lydia, Babylon, and Egypt united, they could not conquer Cyrus, because he had been created by God for a specific task. Showing that when God decrees your liberation, there is no power that can destroy it; God’s divine purposes will be fulfilled in your life just as they were fulfilled in the life of those captive Jews. Just as God chose the Israelite nation without them deserving it, He has chosen you. The people of Israel failed hundreds of times and they were disciplined, but they were never for- gotten by God. That same God is with you always, in temptations and in trials. “The heart of Infinite Love yearns after those who feel powerless to free themselves from the snares of Satan; and He graciously offers to strengthen them to live for Him.”—Prophets and Kings, ch. 26, p. 316.
then fear comes knocking at the door, don’t invite it to come in. Ask Jesus to take care of it. In the days of Isaiah there were numerous reasons to be afraid: the kingdom of the north had been completely eliminated, and it looked like Judah could not last much longer. That is why the book of Isaiah contains the expression “Be not afraid,” in so many places. “Never is the tempestried soul more dearly loved by his Saviour than when he is suffering reproach for the truth’s sake. ‘I will love him,’ Christ said, ‘and will manifest Myself to him.’ When for the truth’s sake the believer stands at the bar of earthly tribunals, Christ stands by his side. When he is confined within prison walls, Christ manifests Himself to him and cheers his heart with His love. When he suffers death for Christ’s sake, the Saviour says to him, They may kill the body, but they cannot hurt the soul” [Matthew 10:28]. ‘Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world’ [John 16:33].”—The Acts of the Apostles, ch. 8, p. 83.
