“But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
and He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name; you are Mine’ ”
(Isaiah 43:1).
Do you like your name? There is no sweeter music than to hear your name on the lips of someone who loves you. Your name is your identity;
it gives you a sense of belonging and value. God not only knows your name; He is going to exchange it for one that perfectly describes what you have experienced in life. The new name that you are going to receive will have some specific characteristics:
O- It is given by God.“ The Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will name” (Isaiah 62:2).
O- No one else will know its meaning. ‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it” (Revelation 2:17).
O- The angels will know it. ‘He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life: but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels” (Revelation 3:5).
O- It will be symbolically written on you. “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name” (Revelation 3:12).
O- It will be given only to the obedient echo persevere in the faith. “Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth” (Revelation 3:10).
God knows your name and He loves you completely. “Jesus knows us individually, and is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He knows us all by name. He knows the very house in which we live, the name of each occupant. Every soul is as fully known to Jesus as if he were the only onefor whom the Saviour died. The distress of every one touches His heart. The cry for aid reaches His ear. . . . He cares for each one as if there were not another on the face of the earth.“—The Desire of Ages, ch. 52, pp. 479, 480.
