«Do not be afraid when one becomes rich, when the glory of his house is increased» (Psalm 49:16).
Arriving in the U.S. with two daughters and without any financial support was not easy. I did all kinds of work: I did childcare, I cleaned houses, and I worked in factories, to name a few. I always kept thinking, «I have the education for something better than this.» When I was hired for my first professional job, I was also able to buy my first car. I stayed faithful to God and I was strict in my finances. I had the blessing of getting a better job, and I was able to buy a condominium. When the economic crisis of 2008 came, many of my friends lost their homes because they couldn’t pay for the mortgages. I understood that the reason that God had allowed me to purchase a small condo instead of a big house was because I couldn’t have paid the mortgage, either, during the economic recession. I have discovered by experience that the faithful daughters of God have a right to prosper, but we mustn’t envy those who have more, nor those who have achieved more by questionable means.
«An intensity such as never before was seen is taking possession of the world. In amusement, in money making, in the contest for power, in the very struggle for existence, there is a terrible force that engrosses body and mind and soul. In the midst of this maddening rush, God is speaking. He bids us come apart and commune with Him. ‘Be still, and know that I am God’ Psalm 46:10.»—Education, ch. 30, p. 260.
«Oh, how important it is that faithfulness in little things characterize our lives, that true integrity mark all our course of action, and that we ever bear in mind that angels of God are taking cognizance of every act! That which we mete to others shall be meted to us again. A fearfulness should ever attend you lest you should deal unjustly, selfishly. By sickness and adversity the Lord will remove from us much more than we obtain by grinding the face of the poor. A just God truly estimates all our motives and actions.”- Testimonies for the Church, vol. 2, ch. 24, p. 158.
How is your financial integrity? Don’t delay in correcting any error, and if you have been the victim of financial abuse, pray and forgive whoever has wronged you in that way. It isn’t worth it to take revenge or to wish them ill; leave it all in God’s hands. He is the one who says to you,
«Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord» (Romans 12:19).
